A two-vehicle crash on Walden Street that killed two Concord residents, two drunk-driving arrests and a copper wire theft from a renovation site topped Concord police activity for the week of July 22–28.

The week's most serious incident, the Saturday, July 25 collision near Bristers Hill Road, drew multiple 911 calls at 1:05 p.m. Two people were transported by MedFlight and three others were taken to hospitals by ambulance, according to the Concord Police log published by The Concord Bridge. Walden Street was temporarily closed. Concord Police and Fire were aided by neighboring towns including Lexington, Sudbury, Acton and Lincoln.

Two longtime Concord residents later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Investigators say a Honda reportedly crossed the double yellow line and struck a Tesla carrying the Concord couple and two visitors from Washington. The Middlesex District Attorney's Office was still determining whether charges would follow as of July 29, Patch reported.

Concord Fire-EMS said on X on July 25 that the department responded to "a significant two-vehicle crash on Walden Street that injured five people, including three who were taken to regional trauma centers."

OUI arrests

Police made two OUI (operating under the influence) arrests over the weekend. On Saturday, July 25 at 2:14 a.m., officers pulled over a driver on Main Street for a marked-lanes violation and arrested the driver for OUI-alcohol, first offense, after a field sobriety test. The next morning, Sunday, July 26 at 6:46 a.m., officers found a driver slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle parked in the road on Stow Street. That driver was taken to Emerson Hospital for evaluation and arrested for unlicensed operation and OUI-alcohol, first offense.

A third alcohol-related incident occurred July 26 at 5:13 p.m., when a 911 caller reported an older person who had fallen in a Lexington Road parking lot. The person was hospitalized and ticketed for OUI.

Property crimes

On Friday, July 24 at 9:56 a.m., a project manager for a Wilson Road renovation reported all copper wire had been stolen from the site. The day before, a Main Street resident discovered a broken window and multiple tools missing from a home under renovation. Both cases remain under investigation.

A Thoreau Street business owner reported a shoplifting incident on Monday, July 27.

Other notable calls

A caller on July 25 at 8:35 a.m. reported hearing someone call "help" while walking on the Battle Road Trail. The National Park Service was notified.

On Tuesday, July 28, a 911 caller reported being rear-ended on Concord Turnpike; the other driver fled. Police could not locate the vehicle. Earlier that day at 12:43 a.m., a Monument Street resident reported a vehicle pulling partway into their driveway with its lights off. The vehicle owner's son was ticketed for unlicensed operation.
