Lexington High School landed the No. 4 spot among Massachusetts public high schools in Niche's 2027 Best Schools rankings, released Monday, Sept. 28.

Concord-Carlisle High School placed No. 18 on the same public school list. Two Concord private schools also cracked the state's top 10: Concord Academy at No. 8 and Middlesex School at No. 9.

The four local schools stood out in a field of 615 ranked Massachusetts high schools, according to Patch. Niche, a Pittsburgh-based school research platform, evaluated more than 93,000 public schools and 30,000 private schools nationwide.

The rankings blend federal and state data with school-reported statistics and more than 3 million reviews from students, parents and teachers. Only MA Academy for Math and Science, Weston High School and Boston Latin School ranked above Lexington High on the public list.

Lexington High earned A-plus grades from Niche in academics, teachers and college prep. The school offers more than 200 clubs, and plans for a new building are underway to address aging facilities, according to its Niche profile.

Concord-Carlisle earned an A-plus for teachers and an A for academics, sports and resources. The school's recently rebuilt campus includes advanced science classrooms, gyms and performing arts spaces, along with an Engineering Certificate program, according to its Niche profile.

On the private side, Middlesex School picked up A-plus marks in academics, teachers, college prep and clubs. The boarding and day school in Concord offers 27 varsity sports.

"This year's rankings give families more ways to find the right fit, with updates designed to help surface schools where their children will thrive," Luke Skurman, Niche founder and CEO, said in a press release.

Among the methodology changes for 2027, Niche split several categories into separate public and private lists, including Best Schools for the Arts, Most Diverse Schools, Best College Prep Schools and Best Teachers.
