Registration is open for a new round of workshops at LexFarm, the nonprofit organic farm at 52 Lowell St. in Lexington, with programs running through the fall for adults, seniors, and families.

The Lexington Community Farm Coalition announced the workshop slate on Wednesday, July 23, in a posting to The Lexington Observer submitted by Pamela Tames. Offerings span four tracks: regenerative farming, arts and culture, gardening, and food education.

Walking Wednesdays with Wendy Ernst

The program with the clearest calendar is Walking Wednesdays, a free monthly walk led by nature educator Wendy Ernst. Ernst guides small groups around the farm's five acres, pointing out crops, pollinators, birds, farm animals, and seasonal changes in the surrounding landscape.

The next sessions are Wednesday, August 19, and Wednesday, September 16, from 11 a.m. to noon. The walks are free and open to all. LexFarm asks participants to register so staff can send weather-cancellation notices.

Flower pounding and fabric dyeing

Two arts-focused workshops round out the lineup: natural fabric dyeing and flower pounding.

In the flower pounding session, participants walk the farm's fields to gather fresh blooms, learn which plants yield the strongest pigments, then pound the flowers directly onto fabric to create a floral bandana. A family-friendly version called "Color Harvest!" is aimed at children ages 4 to 14.

Specific dates and pricing for these sessions were not included in the announcement. LexFarm ran at least one flower pounding session earlier this summer, on Thursday, June 25.
