Sisters Natalie and Brittany Haas will perform a fiddle-and-cello concert at the Concord Conservatory of Music on Friday, Oct. 30, at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets cost $35 for general admission. Students 18 and under get in free.
The concert, billed as a multi-genre program of classical, contemporary and world music, runs until 9 p.m. at the conservatory's home at 1317 Main St., according to a Discover Concord listing for the event.
The Haas sisters grew up playing together, filling their childhood home with Bach suites and old-time fiddle tunes, according to a Word Barn profile of the duo. Their paths then split. Natalie studied classical cello at the Juilliard School and spent more than two decades touring with Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser. Brittany pursued old-time traditions, earned a degree in evolutionary biology at Princeton University and went on to perform with Crooked Still, the Dave Rawlings Machine and Steve Martin's bluegrass band.
Now the sisters have reunited as the HAAS Duo. Their second album, North Node, came out June 19, according to The Strad, a classical-music publication.
Natalie told The Strad that performing with her sister carries a different energy than her long partnership with Fraser. "There's a deep rhythmic connection; we don't even have to talk about it," she said. She added that working with Brittany, despite occasional disagreements, produces stronger results.
Brittany plays a five-string violin, which The Strad reported expands the duo's range and allows greater balance with the cello. On their 2023 debut album, Haas, Natalie composed a piece called "Finally" in which the cello carries the melody throughout.
Tickets for the Oct. 30 concert are available online through the Concord Conservatory of Music.
