Police details will direct traffic on Bedford Street, Old Bedford Road, Keyes Road, and Sudbury Road all week as Concord's resurfacing contractor mills pavement and lays fresh asphalt across a busy stretch of town.
The work runs Monday, July 20, through Friday, July 24, according to a civic alert Concord Public Works posted Thursday, July 16. Crews will operate during daytime hours, and the entire schedule is weather dependent.
Day-by-day breakdown
Monday, July 20: Milling begins on Bedford Street from Old Bedford Road to the Bedford town line. Old Bedford Road gets milled the same day, and ADA-compliant ramp work starts on both Keyes Road and Old Bedford Road.
Tuesday, July 21: Bedford Street milling extends from Old Bedford Road to Monument Street, including Court Lane. ADA ramp work continues on Keyes Road and Old Bedford Road.
Wednesday through Friday, July 22–24: Bedford Street milling continues alongside Sudbury Road paving and ongoing ADA ramp work on Old Bedford Road.
What drivers and residents should expect
Officers and flaggers will keep traffic moving through active work zones, but delays are likely. Concord Public Works said drivers will be allowed through but should expect heavy equipment in the roadway.
Driveway access may be blocked for a few minutes while the milling machine passes a property. During final paving, residents could face roughly 30-minute restrictions while hot asphalt cools. The town warned that driving on fresh pavement before it sets can permanently damage the new surface.
Residents who need driveway access during active work should speak directly with the police detail officer or flagger on site.
Parking and property warnings
The town asked residents and business owners not to park within the work limits during construction. Private irrigation systems, underground dog fences, landscaping, or other improvements within the public right-of-way may be damaged. Concord said neither the town nor the contractor will be responsible for that damage, and encouraged residents to relocate those items away from the road edge before work begins.
Part of a larger program
The week's work is part of Concord's ongoing resurfacing program. The same contractor and project consultant milled the MBTA commuter rail parking lot on Commonwealth Avenue starting Tuesday, July 14.
