Road work on Valley Road, Oxbow Road and Wheeler Road in Concord resumes Tuesday, Sept. 8, bringing lane restrictions and brief driveway delays.
Crews will begin milling pavement on Valley Road on Tuesday, working between Holden Wood Road and Garfield Road, according to a town advisory. Oxbow Road and Wheeler Road follow on Thursday, Sept. 10. The Oxbow Road project covers the road's full length, while Wheeler Road work runs from Plainfield Road to Sudbury Road.
Work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day through Friday, Sept. 11. The schedule depends on weather.
The three-stage process on each road starts with milling the existing pavement, then adjusting drainage structures and curbs, and finishes with final paving. Between stages, utility structures may sit above the final road surface until paving is complete.
Police officers and flaggers will direct traffic through the work zones. The town advisory said property access will be maintained for most of the work, though driveways may be blocked briefly while the milling machine passes. During final paving, residents could face delays of about 30 minutes while hot asphalt is placed and cools.
Residents who need to get through the work zone should speak with the police detail officer or flagger on site.
The town is asking residents not to park within the work limits during construction. It also warned that private irrigation systems, underground dog fences and landscaping within the public right-of-way could be damaged, and that neither the town nor its contractor will be responsible. Residents should move those items away from the road edge where possible.
The Valley, Oxbow and Wheeler road work is the latest phase of Concord's 2026 road reconstruction program. Earlier phases covered Old Bedford Road, Bedford Street, Maple Street, Lowell Road, Sudbury Road and the MBTA parking lot on Commonwealth Avenue, with work running from July through late August, according to an earlier town advisory.
Residents with questions during construction can speak with the police detail officer or flagger at the work site.
