The Concord Conservatory of Music is hosting a bucket drumming workshop on Saturday, Oct. 17, at its Junction Square campus in Concord.

Faculty member Tsuyoshi Honjo will lead the Multigenerational Bucket Drumming Workshop from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the CCM 2 Garage, 15 Junction Square Drive. The session is open to participants ages 9 through adult, though children under 8 may attend if accompanied by a registered adult.

All participants need are buckets and drumsticks.

Admission is free for current CCM students and $10 for all other participants.

What to expect

The workshop focuses on building rhythmic skills through group exercises. Participants will work on pulse, syncopation and layered patterns, according to the event listing on Discover Concord. At least one year of prior musical training on any instrument, voice or genre is required.

The format pairs kids as young as 9 with teens, adults and what CCM calls "lifelong learners."

About the instructor

Honjo holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in saxophone from Boston University, a Master of Music from the Longy School of Music and a Bachelor of Music in jazz guitar and music theory from Berklee College of Music, according to his CCM faculty profile. He has performed at festivals across six countries and has taught for Acton-Boxborough Community Education, Lincoln Public Schools and other area programs.

On his CCM faculty page, Honjo described his approach to teaching: "I adopt my teaching style to each student since every student learns very differently."

How to register

Registration is available through the Concord Conservatory of Music website at ConcordConservatory.org. The conservatory lists separate sign-up links for current CCM students and non-CCM participants. No registration deadline or capacity limit has been announced.
