Concord’s Select Board plans to discuss a special election timeline Monday, Oct. 19, following Mary Hartman’s resignation for family reasons.
Board Chair Wendy Rovelli said the election could take place in early January, though no date has been set, The Concord Bridge reported.
Hartman submitted her resignation in a letter dated Saturday, Oct. 10. She joined the board in 2022 and won reelection in 2025. The winner of the special election would fill a term ending May 1, 2028.
“We regret it,” Rovelli told The Bridge, “but obviously she’s doing the right thing for her family.”
Three seats face elections
Hartman’s departure leaves four members on the five-member board as Concord approaches budget discussions and continues planning for redevelopment of the former MCI-Concord prison site.
Rovelli’s and Cameron McKennitt’s terms expire May 1, 2027, according to the town’s board roster. Together with Hartman’s vacancy, that puts three seats before voters in the coming months.
An early January special election would precede the annual town election nominating caucus scheduled for Jan. 25, The Bridge reported.
Hartman represented the board on the Municipal Affordable Housing Trust. Rovelli said she expects to assume that assignment, while members divide the remaining committee responsibilities.
How to attend
The Oct. 19 meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Select Board Room on the second floor of Town House, 22 Monument Square. Residents can also attend through Zoom, according to the town calendar.
The meeting agenda will provide the online access link and details of the election discussion.
