Concord-Carlisle field hockey tied Waltham 3-3 on Monday, Oct. 5, after a penalty stroke in expired time evened the score.

The Dual County League (DCL) game saw Abby Ruhmann lead the Patriots with two goals. Lizzie Sproule added the third for Concord-Carlisle (4-2-2 overall, 1-2-1 DCL). Waltham's Kaylee LeBlanc also scored twice for the Hawks (5-2-2), the Boston Herald reported.

The draw extended a strong stretch for head coach Mary Desmond's squad, which won back-to-back games over Algonquin Regional and North Andover before hosting Waltham. The Patriots opened the season with blowout wins over Bedford and Chelmsford before a Sept. 17 loss to Acton-Boxborough and a 1-1 tie with Wellesley on Sept. 22. A Sept. 29 loss to Lincoln-Sudbury preceded the two-game winning streak.

Ruhmann has been a consistent scoring threat from the midfield. She converted a penalty stroke in the Patriots' Sept. 14 rout of Chelmsford, according to the Concord Bridge. Goalkeeper Lexie Ramirez has anchored the defense, standing strong under steady pressure in multiple games this fall, the Concord Bridge reported.

The Oct. 5 result leaves Concord-Carlisle sixth in the DCL standings at 1-2-1 in league play.

Volleyball swept by Waltham

On the same afternoon, the Concord-Carlisle volleyball team lost 3-0 to Waltham in DCL action, according to Concord-Carlisle High School Athletics.

The loss dropped the Patriots to 2-7 overall and 1-6 in the DCL. Concord-Carlisle has lost three straight matches, all by 3-0 scores, following back-to-back sweeps of Boston Latin and Shawsheen Valley Tech in late September.
